A Short Visit To Sumba

Aloha, Sumba Tengah!

IMG_0732Being part of Nusa Tenggara Timur, this island is a treasure to explore. This is my first time visiting Sumba for office work with other lecturers from my faculty. We only had 3 days there but it was pretty fun!

IMG_0487We left Jawa island on Monday, taking flight from Jogja’s airport. It took approximately 1 hour to reach Denpasar then we continued the next flight to Tambolaka airport (another 1 hour flight).

IMG_0494The first time I got off the plane, whoa.. it was so hot. I walked a little bit fast (of course after doing some selfie shots :p) into the arrival gate inside the airport. They said the airport was quite new so it was good to know that the town has developed gradually.

Pertama keluar pesawat, whoa… sangat panas.

IMG_0539A man was waiting outside to pick us when we walked out the arrival gate. We spent about 2 hours to finally reach the hotel. Tired? Nope! In the evening, we went to Taman Makatul, a Sumba Tengah’s government buildings area to see sunset there. I know some of you might wonder why we chose government buildings cluster area to see sunset, haha.. First, we didn’t have enough time to catch up the sunset at beach. Second, Taman Makatul is under construction now. There are only several new buildings and you still can see many empty fields there.

IMG_0605The next morning, we went to same place Taman Makatul to held a seminar in Mayor’s Office. Yes, the building is considered new and it’s still under construction as well. But who cares? The important thing is the government’s activity right? *showing my serious face*. The seminar went well and it took 5-6 hours to discuss legal drafting for Sumba Tengah’s regulations. It was a long seminar but it was interesting, giving me knowledge about Sumba Tengah’s social situations.

IMG_0643After the seminar, we went to Waikabubak to look around the town and to have dinner. I saw many people selling Sumba cloth along the road. The colors were so eye catching that I bought one hahaha. We also stopped by the new government building in Waikabubak before finally we ate dinner.

IMG_0704The last day in Sumba, we traveled to a waterfall located near the airport. It’s called Waikelo Sawah waterfall. The water is so fresh! I wish I could swim there 😦.

Namanya air terjun Waikelo Sawah. Airnya jernih dan segar! Saya hanya bisa membayangkan berenang di sana. 😦

IMG_0509That is my short trip story in Sumba. A very brief trip hahaha..

Nah itu cerita perjalanan saya di Sumba. Sebuah perjalanan yang sangat singkat hahaha..
